Perhaps unsurprisingly, according to the latest data from the app analytics platform Sensor Tower, TikTok again became the most downloaded app in July.
This is not surprising though, since the Social Video App has been number one on the monthly download charts for the past 36 months. WhatsApp briefly returned to No. 1 last November, and Telegram downloads suddenly jumped sharply in January this year (this may be due to WhatsApp’s controversial data protection update).
As confirmed by Sensor Tower, for the month of July 2021, TikTok is the world’s most downloaded non-gaming app with over 63 million installs. The Intelligence platform further added that China and America were the two countries which saw the largest number of downloads. Statistics showing Douyin in China at 15%, followed by the United States at 9%.
So, despite TikTok’s significant presence in the marketplace, TikTok is not only gaining attention in the new areas it just launched, but it is still gaining users in existing mainstream markets.
This explains why the platform is growing exponentially as well as its sales potential. For TikTok audience growth is a key success factor. However, in general, it usually takes a long time for users in new territories to become paid users of all kinds. If TikTok continues to grow in regions where it already has a viewer, it will demonstrate expanded potential in both areas to further strengthen its global presence.
If you’re wondering why Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube keep trying to promote their own TikTok cloning feature, here’s why. Today, TikTok has not only become a major platform and challenge for social media, but it continues to grow faster than its competitors. This puts platforms such as Instagram and YouTube at risk. It then makes sense, on the one hand, for them to want their users to be engaged by following the trend of shorter videos.
The most obvious example here is the rise in popularity of Facebook, which has replaced MySpace as the preferred social media platform. This shift started with younger users as Facebook became a new trend, then it was split into larger groups, older users, brands, etc. Like TikTok is doing today, Facebook used to be the first place to see a group of young users meet on Social media.
TikTok is gunning for 1 billion users by 2021, and will continue to add new features such as in-app purchases, stories and enhanced live streaming. It is increasingly seen as a real competitor that will seriously impact the use of Facebook apps over time. And it will eventually become the best social network.
Among other app trends, CapCut, a video editing app that allows users to create videos to send to other apps, and owned by TikTok parent company ByteDance is in the top 10 list. TaoBao, a shopping platform based in China, is already back on the charts.
