TikTok has launched the Artist Account, giving emerging musicians additional ways to enhance their profiles and improve their discoverability. However, these new tools aren’t just for up-and-comers; established music stars can also use an artist tag on their profiles, dedicating a separate tab to their music alongside their videos, likes, and reposted content.
To qualify for an artist tag, TikTok requires users to have at least four sounds or songs uploaded to the app. Artists can also feature one of their tracks to appear first on the music tab. If an artist releases new content, the app will tag the songs as ‘new’ for 14 days before and up to 30 days post-release. All new tracks will be auto-added to a user’s music tab on their profile.
TikTok reveals that more than 70,000 artists are already leveraging these new tools. The platform has become a hot spot for content to virally spread, benefiting both emerging and established artists due to the rapid pace of dance and lifestyle video trends.
TikTok’s influence on the music industry has been so significant, it has led even streaming platforms like Spotify to consider experimenting with video-first music discovery feeds.
