The automated system will make access to these materials easier and faster for Tunisian academics and students. The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TKA) developed an electronic database and barcode registration system in the library of Tunisia’s Ez-Zitouna University.
With Abdellatif Bouazizi, President of Ez-Zitouna University, Ali Fuat Cebeci, TKA’s Coordinator in Tunis, and lyas Yavuz, Educational Attaché of the Turkish Embassy in Tunis, the electronic database and barcode registration system installed by TKA in the library of Ez-Zitouna University in Tunis was put into service.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Abdellatif Bouazizi, President of Ez-Zitouna University, and Ali Fuat Cebeci, TKA’s Coordinator in Tunis, signed an agreement of understanding to increase cooperation.
In his statement during the inaugural ceremony, Bouazizi stated, “As a result of our collaboration with TKA, the required infrastructure in our library was developed to track and save volumes digitally.” I am hopeful that our collaboration with TKA will develop and open the door for future collaboration with other Turkish institutions.”
TKA’s Coordinator in Tunis, Ali Fuat Cebeci, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, saying, “We have delivered the project for the construction of an electronic database and barcode registration system.
The details of approximately 40,000 books in the library, including manuscripts, will be recorded into a database thanks to the library automation system that we implemented. As a result, the preservation and security of these works will be guaranteed.”
Noting that the automated system will make it easier and faster for the Tunisian academic community and students to access these resources, Cebeci stated, “We believe that this initiative will make a major and relevant contribution to research activities and scientific studies.” I’d want to wish Ez-Zitouna University, its academic community, and its students all the best.”
TKA established a system that assigns a unique ID to each book and displays it on the label of the relevant book.
It is aimed to follow these works and maintain their security easily by entering these IDs, which are linked to relevant parameters such as shelf location, into the automation system, which uses radio frequency waves.
TKA and Ez-Zitouna University inked a collaboration protocol in 2019 for the conservation, archiving, and digitalization of manuscripts, copies of the Quran, and many other historical materials in Kairouan’s Center of Islamic Studies and the Rakada Museum.
