Tigo Tanzania has made history as the first telecom operator in the country to launch fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fiber-to-the-office (FTTO) services, ushering in a new era of reliable and high-speed connectivity.
“Our new Tigo Fibre service reflects our commitment to empowering Tanzanians through cutting-edge internet access,” remarked John Sicilima, Chief of Tigo Business. Anna Loya, Head of Brand and Communications, highlighted that this launch puts Tanzania at the forefront of connectivity innovation within Africa.
Tigo Fibre offers a range of affordable plans, starting at 70,000 Tshs for 10 Mbps speed and going up to 200,000 Tshs for 100 Mbps. This pricing strategy aligns with the company’s commitment to making high-speed internet accessible for a wider segment of the population.
For both households and businesses, Tigo Fiber promises:
- Unmatched Speed: Ideal for demanding applications like video streaming, cloud-based services, and online gaming.
- Enhanced Reliability: Fiber-optic connections are less susceptible to outages, ensuring consistent uptime.
- Future-Proofing: Fiber’s scalability makes it ready to handle the increased bandwidth demands of tomorrow’s technologies.
The service debuts in Mbweni and its surrounding areas near Dar es Salaam, with rapid expansion plans across Tanzania in the works.
The launch of Tigo Fiber comes at a time of accelerated fiber infrastructure deployment across metropolitan Africa. This expansion of high-quality internet access holds the potential to:
- Catalyse Innovation: Enable startups and tech hubs requiring fast connections to thrive.
- Boost Education: Facilitate remote learning, online research, and digital skill development.
- Improve Public Services: Streamline government processes and enhance e-governance initiatives.
Tigo’s first-mover advantage underscores the dynamic nature of Tanzania’s telecom market. The recent acquisition of Smile Communications Tanzania by Vodacom, giving Vodacom access to additional spectrum holdings, hints at intensified competition to provide superior connectivity services.
“With Tigo Fibre, we’re not just connecting our customers – we’re unlocking the full potential of Tanzania’s digital economy,” – John Sicilima, Chief of Tigo Business.
