Millions of Nigerians can now receive money from abroad instantly following a new partnership between Thunes, the global payments infrastructure provider, and MoMo PSB, the fintech subsidiary of MTN Nigeria. The collaboration marks a major expansion of MoMo’s international remittance corridors, enabling users to receive funds from key markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and South Africa.
The partnership integrates MoMo PSB into the Thunes Direct Global Network, allowing seamless, secure and real-time transfers directly into MoMo wallets. Nigerians receiving international remittances can use the funds immediately for everyday transactions such as airtime purchases, bill payments, peer-to-peer transfers, and digital commerce.
MoMo PSB, one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing digital financial platforms, provides payments, e-commerce, insurance and remittance services to millions of users nationwide. By joining the Thunes network, MoMo strengthens its role in expanding access to digital financial services and supporting the Central Bank of Nigeria’s broader financial inclusion agenda.
For Thunes, the partnership aligns with its mission to unlock financial access for emerging-market consumers by connecting local wallets, neobanks and financial institutions to global money flows. The company’s global infrastructure powers real-time cross-border payments to and from over 130 countries.
Remittances remain a critical economic lifeline for Nigeria. According to the World Bank, inflows grew by 9% in 2024 to reach $20.9 billion, underscoring the importance of seamless payment channels that reduce friction and cost for senders and recipients.
“This alliance makes it possible for Nigerians to receive money from abroad instantly, securely and conveniently. By opening up easier access to the global economy, we are enabling more people to manage their finances without friction,” said Aik Boon Tan, Chief Network Officer at Thunes.
“Joining the Thunes Direct Global Network strengthens our commitment to financial inclusion. Millions of Nigerians can now receive funds from family, friends and business partners abroad instantly and cost-effectively,” added Phrase Lubega, Chief Executive Officer of MoMo PSB.
The partnership is expected to accelerate the adoption of mobile wallets for cross-border payments while driving financial participation for underserved communities across Nigeria.
