Kenya’s WeFarm, Illuminum Greenhouses and Juhudi Kilimo have collectively raised US$ 856,000 in funding from Innovate UK.
Innovate UK tasks the three startups with developing Africa’s first solar powered smart sensors, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning technology.
The three startups, with Innovate UK’s support, will build a low cost greenhouse micro-climate monitoring and management system.
The system, dubbed SmartGFA, will use of soil sensors, climate and weather information to optimize irrigation and environmental conditions for specific crops.

The project will in the long term, enable small-scale farmers to achieve high yields at a reduced costs.
Innovate UK supports businesses to build new ideas; its goal is to foster productivity and economic growth.
