Threads, the Instagram-linked app resembling Twitter, is introducing live sports scores to its platform. The announcement was made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, outlining that Threads has begun testing live scores for NBA games, with plans to extend this feature to other sports leagues in due course.
With the new feature, Threads aims to compete with platform X, which has featured live scores for sports games for approximately ten years. Threads hopes to draw in users who typically use platform X to discuss live games and stay informed about recent updates.
In addition to live scores, Threads will offer the option of tapping a team’s logo to access conversations about the team, enabling users to connect with others who follow the same team.
Threads, as reported by TechCrunch, believes that the new feature will facilitate users in joining discussions about their preferred sports teams. The company revealed that basketball has emerged as one of the most popular subjects on the social network, making NBA Threads one of the app’s most dynamic sports communities. Threads aims to position itself as a hub for sports discourse with this new feature.
Users can search for a game on Threads within a day of its occurrence to see the start time. During the game, users can search for it to view the live score. Once the game has concluded, users can search for it to check the final score.
The introduction of live scores signifies the latest move by Threads to compete against platform X. Earlier in the week, Threads officially launched its “trending now” feature for all users in the U.S. This new feature, which enables users to find topical conversations happening on the social network, brings Threads more in line with platform X.
