If you remember, in January 2019, Microsoft told us to expect a hard-wearing digital pen for use with the Surface Go in classrooms. The company later launched in February and called it Microsoft Classroom Pen.
Today, Microsoft announces that it has redesigned the Surface Pen for students and will release Microsoft Classroom Pen Two on April 27th, 2021.
The pen is the company’s second budget stylus targeted at teachers and students who make use of Windows laptops.
Microsoft has said it’s goal is to help improve the learning outcomes of students.
In response to customer feedback, the new Microsoft Classroom Pen Two features an extended enclosure, to optimize for grip strength, and an improved storage experience, and is offered at just 1999 U.S. MSRP, which is half the price of Microsoft Classroom Pen.
“Our hope is to fuel productivity and creativity through digital inking for students, during this new age of remote and hybrid learning,” the announcer said.
Riah and Doren are two students featured in the YouTube video where the announcement was made. “It’s really light and I love the buttons. This is a golf pencil, it’s really small. But I really liked this cause I can grip it easier,” says Riah who gave her first impression about the pen.
Microsoft Classroom Pen 2 will enable students of all ages to write and draw naturally on their screens via an improved design and longer enclosure.
The durable pen tip is replaceable, and it’s easy to prevent loss with a built-in slot for a tether or the clip that attaches to Surface Type Covers. And even with those improvements, the Classroom Pen 2 is only half the cost of the original.
Microsoft has confirmed in a blog post announcement that the Classroom Pen 2 will be available exclusively to education institutions starting on April 27, 2021. It will be sold in packs of 20 for a cost of $399.80 USD ($19.99 per pen) and includes batteries and replacement pen tips.
