Lagos is no doubt the commercial nerve center of Nigeria. One label that successive Lagos government have tried to remove from the fabric of the city is the notorious and fierce traffic.

Wait for a second, you say Lagos traffic is fierce. No, it is not if the recently released figures by Intrix which analyzed congestion in 1,064 cities in 38 countries. Lagos wasn’t even ranked among the cities with the craziest traffic in Africa let alone the world. Unsurprisingly, only South Africa made the ranking.

According to the ranking, Los Angeles California has got the worst traffic in the world. A driver spends as much as an average of 104 hours during peak hours in congestion. Los Angeles was followed by Moscow, Newyork, San Francisco, Bogota, Sao Paulo, London, Atlanta, Paris, and Miami are among the first 10 countries with the craziest traffic.

Perhaps it is time for Lagosians to stop whining about the traffic and of course, the government should find a pragmatic and permanent solution to the traffic by making use of available data and technology.
