The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the rolling out of its new e-Yellow Card to replace the old type of Yellow Card.
The information was in a statement by Mrs. Boade Akinola, the Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health.
She stated that the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Abdulaziz Mashi, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja.
The Yellow Card is a requirement for international travelers from risk countries like Nigeria serving as a proof they have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Abdulaziz Mashi, in an official statement released at the weekend in Abuja, said that the new Yellow Card is fortified with enhanced security features verifiable anywhere in the world by scanning the bar code or checking the card number on the yellow Card.
According to Mashi, the new e-cards will curb the menace of counterfeit cards paraded everywhere. The new e-Yellow Card is the only valid documented proof of vaccination against yellow fever, a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by a virus transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
He also said that Yellow fever could be fatal but it is a vaccine-preventable disease. And by the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) all international travelers into yellow fever prone areas including Nigeria must be vaccinated against the disease.
