Apple announced it sold over 13 Million iPhones over the weekend, compared to last year’s 10 million units in the same timeframe. Some commentators feared that Apple wouldn’t pull off sales as spectacular as those for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in an “S release” year but i guess the Cupertino giant’s showed them how it’s done.
“Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a company press release. “Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9.”
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are available in just 12 countries at the moment, but it’s said that the inclusion of China from has helped Apple’s latest devices surpass previous records. Last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sold 10 million units during their launch weekend last September, while in the previous year, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c sold 9 million units. China has been an increasingly important market for Apple, with huge demand for the iPhone there.
The Cupertino company is targeting more than 130 countries by the end of the year but plans to release the phones in an additional 40 countries on October 9.
iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will roll out worldwide to more than 40 additional countries and territories beginning October 9 including Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan. On October 10, countries include Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in India, Malaysia and Turkey on Friday, October 16 and in over 130 countries by the end of the year.
Of course, Apple’s sales figures will increase when the new iPhones expand their reach. In addition to 3D Touch and Live Photos, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus deliver Apple’s latest A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, new 12-megapixel iSight cameras with support for 4K video, and more robust designs, with Series 7000 aluminum and Ion-X glass.
