Google has started rolling out the upgraded Find My Device network globally, starting with US and Canada.

With a revolutionary crowdsourced network comprising over a billion Android devices, Find My Device is here to revolutionize the way you track your misplaced Android devices and everyday essentials securely and efficiently. Here are five exciting ways you can put it to the test:

    1. Locate Offline Devices: Never fear losing track of your compatible Android phone or tablet again, even when they’re offline. With Find My Device, you can ring your device or view its location on a map directly from the app, providing peace of mind no matter where your device may be. And for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro owners, the specialized Pixel hardware ensures you can still locate your device even if it’s powered off or has a dead battery.
    2. Keep Track of Everyday Items with Bluetooth Tags: In May, the Find My Device app will introduce Bluetooth tracker tags from Chipolo and Pebblebee, allowing you to locate everyday essentials like keys, wallets, or luggage with ease. These tags, designed specifically for the Find My Device network, provide compatibility with unknown tracker alerts across Android and iOS, safeguarding you from unwanted tracking. Stay tuned for more Bluetooth tags from eufy, Jio, Motorola, and other brands later this year.
    3. Find Nearby Items: When you’re close to your lost device or everyday item but need a little assistance tracking it down, simply utilize the “Find nearby” button on the app to pinpoint its exact location. Whether it’s your wallet or keys, this feature will be your trusted ally in locating items effortlessly.
    4. Pinpoint Devices at Home with Nest: Losing items within the confines of your home is a common occurrence, but with Find My Device, you can now leverage the proximity to your home Nest devices to identify the location of your lost device with ease.
    5. Share Accessories with Friends and Family: Share accessories with loved ones to ensure everyone can keep track of them within the app. Whether it’s your house key with your roommate, the TV remote with a friend, or luggage with a travel buddy, Find My Device makes collaborative tracking a breeze.

According to Eric Kay, Google’s VP of Engineering, “Find My Device is secure by default and private by design. Multi-layered protections built into the Find My Device network help keep you safe and your personal information private, while keeping you in control of the devices connected to the Find My Device network. This includes end-to-end encryption of location data as well as aggregated device location reporting, a first-of-its-kind safety feature that provides additional protection against unwanted tracking back to a home or private location.”

The new Find My Device, which is similar to Apple’s Find My network, works with devices running Android 9+.
