Microsoft has announced that it will introduce a dedicated keyboard key for its Copilot AI on Windows 11 PCs. The company referred to this update as “the first significant change to the Windows PC keyboard in nearly three decades” in a blog post preceding CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The Copilot key functions similarly to the Windows key, providing immediate access to Microsoft’s AI assistant upon being pressed.
The swift realization of Copilot’s integration, especially in light of Microsoft’s recent emphasis on AI, has surprised many. Microsoft described the Copilot key as “another transformative moment in our journey with Windows where Copilot will be the entry point into the world of AI on the PC.”
The company has stated that the Copilot key will be included in new PCs set to release in Spring 2024, which will be discussed more during CES 2024, and in future variations of Surface devices. Symbolically, the introduction of this key indicates Microsoft’s perspective of Copilot as a major component of Windows’ future. It is implying that Copilot may eventually be as vital to the system as the Start Menu, perhaps suggesting a potential fusion of the two features. However, for the time being, the company plans to proceed with gradual changes.
Now here’s a video of someone hitting a key:
