Telegram is getting important updates, of which the major ones are an increase in the number of viewers for group video calls to 1000 and the ability to record video messages in higher quality resolution.
Telegram recently introduced video calling for groups on its mobile app and desktop in June, almost a year after the first announcement of the group video calling feature. The latest update further improves the group video calling experience, which Telegram calls Group Video Calling 2.0.
Telegram says the maximum number of people who can be on a video call and broadcast is still 30, but now 1000 people can watch anything from online lectures to live rap battles.
Video messages are also streamed at a higher resolution, and you can tap to view the video at a larger size. Telegram says that audio from your device will keep playing as you record your own video messages. “So you can now sing along to your favourite songs or reply without pausing your podcast,” it says. You can now zoom in with the rear camera of your phone while recording.
Telegram also added screen sharing for one-on-one video calls (with audio from the device of whoever’s broadcasting). You can broadcast audio from your device during a video call. Before you start showing your screen, a video preview is shown first.
Other new Telegram features include the ability to automatically delete messages after a month, a new password animation, password reset and notification options for 2fA enabled accounts, a new way to send animations on Android, and some new animated emojis.
Telegram for iOS offers some additional new features. The camera in the Telegram app shows the natural zoom levels of the iPhone, including 0.5x and 2x. You can also press and hold the zoom button to open the zoom wheel for more detailed control.
iOS users will now be able to select multiple recipients when forwarding a message. They will have the ability to quickly select multiple chats for bulk actions in the chat list by scrolling with two fingers.
The update is already active in the App Store and Google Play Store, so enjoy the new features.
