Tecno has unveiled its first foldable smartphone – the Phantom V Fold 5G. The Chinese phone maker introduced the phone along with the SPARK Pro 10 selfie phone and the upgraded MEGABOOK S1 2023 laptop at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.
This is Tecno’s first outing at the annual event signally its entrance into the global mobile technology ecosystem. So it caught a lot of tech enthusiasts by surprise as it has mostly restricted its activities in Africa.
The Phantom V Fold 5G is powered by a MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9000+ processor and weighs 299g. About the display, it sports 6.42-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen on the outside and a 7.85-inch 2K+ AMOLED folding display on the inside. It is a bit bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4’s display.
It features an ultra-clear 5-lens photography system, including a 50MP main camera with a super light-sensitive custom sensor, a further two rear lenses – a 50MP 2x zoom camera, and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. The two front lenses are a 32MP on the cover screen, and a 16MP on the inner screen.
The device comes with a 5,000mAh capacity battery with support for 45W fast charging.
Surprisingly the TECNO Phantom V fold will first launch in India at a price of $1,099 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version. The 512GB storage version is priced at $1,222. It will be available in 2 colours – Black and White
Maybe Tecno does not want interrupt its strategy of introducing its signature low-end phones in Africa. Tecno has been selling smartphones in Africa since 2006, and its nearly 20% market share in the continent makes it the Africa’s top phone brand.
