    Tech Startups in Nigeria Can Apply for NCC’s Virtual Hackathon to Stand a Chance of Winning N3,000,000

    The Nigerian Communications Commission is inviting startups, tech hubs and Innovation digital SMEs in Nigeria to apply for its Virtual hackathon to stand a chance of winning a grant of N3, 000,000.

    The Virtual hackathon is themed ‘Adaptable Digital Solutions for Addressing the Present and Future Impacts of Pandemic and Epidemic Diseases.’

    Applicants are required to have solutions that address issues in the under-listed fields of interest:

    • Health– Finding ways to empower Health workers on the front lines and bring support to individuals isolated t home. It should also include solutions to prevent, trace, and contain the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
    • Community– The solution helps with digital communications that will aid the sustenance of economic activities and people to people communication while encouraging social distancing.
    • Productivity– Enhance the productivity of people working from home during the lockdown and beyond.
    • Education– Easy to deploy, accessible, and cost-effective e-learning solutions for public schools.
    • Transportation– Improve safety in public transportation facilities in Nigeria.

    Applicants’ proposed digital solution will be evaluated based on the following requirements:

    • Adherence of proposal to stated requirements above.
    • The novelty of the proposed digital solution
    • Clear problem statement and explanation of the proposed solution.
    • Each solution including prototype development must be concluded within 2 months of receipt of the Grant.
    • Proof of concept (feasibility of idea with diagram, algorithm, etc)

    Each submission will undergo preliminary assessment. The proposals that are adjudged most promising and capable of positively impacting the fight against COVID-19 may be invited for the defense of the proposals before a decision is taken on winners.

    The top three startups with the best digital solutions will receive a grant of N3,000,000 each.

    Interested applicants are required to submit soft copies to the following email addresses: yikabir@ncc.gov.ng; fbruce@ncc.gov.ng; and chimezie@ncc.gov.ng on or before 5 pm, Friday 17th July 2020.

    Also, all emails should indicate ‘Digital Solutions for Covid-19’ in the subject field. Proposal submitted after the deadline will be automatically rejected.
