TD Africa, a leading IT and lifestyle product distributor in Nigeria, has announced a partnership with Starlink, making it the first distributor in Africa. According to a press statement released on February 7, 2024, in Lagos, the deal to distribute Starlink kits advances the goal of providing reliable internet connectivity to Nigerians and the broader African population.
This new alliance supplements TD Africa’s existing distribution partnerships with renowned brands, including HP, Microsoft, Apple, Dell Technologies, Huawei, Lenovo, Tecno, Infinix, Nokia, and Samsung.
Founded by SpaceX, Starlink offers high-speed, low-latency internet access in over 70 global markets, including seven African countries. The new partnership aims to enhance internet access across Africa, especially in remote residential and commercial areas.
TD Africa plans to utilize Starlink’s high-speed connectivity, low latency, broad coverage, and scalability to bridge the digital divide and stimulate economic growth across the continent.
However, existing bans in countries such as Ghana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe could pose challenges to these plans, although the potential extent of these obstacles remains uncertain.
Established in 2000, TD Africa represents over 27 multinational companies in Africa and is a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider in 47 African countries.
In response to the partnership, TD Africa’s Coordinating Managing Director, Chioma Chimere, highlighted how the collaboration complements the company’s legacy as a technology and business solutions distributor across Africa and Starlink’s goal to revolutionize worldwide internet access.
Chimere reiterated TD Africa’s commitment to making internet solutions that are “accessible, affordable, and usable” widely available to individuals and businesses throughout Africa.
This partnership follows recent agreements by other companies with Starlink. On September 22, 2023, the Paratus Group declared its reseller agreement with Starlink to supply internet kits to customers in approved African countries, including Mozambique, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria.
Just shortly after, on October 2, 2023, Africa’s eCommerce platform, Jumia, revealed its partnership with Starlink to vend the satellite Internet service kit throughout the continent.
