Tanzanian startup SkyVerse Solutions has emerged as the winner of the third edition of the AfrInnovate Youth Challenge (AYC), a continental platform that celebrates the creativity, resilience, and impact of Africa’s youth. The company was recognized for its groundbreaking mechanized post-harvest groundnut processing solution, designed to boost yields, reduce losses, and increase income for farmers.

The AfrInnovate Youth Challenge, organized by Junior Achievement (JA) Africa, in partnership with the Z Zurich Foundation and JA Worldwide, spotlights young innovators who are driving inclusion and sustainability through purpose-driven enterprises.

This year’s competition showcased a diverse range of impactful solutions. After an impressive round of pitches, SkyVerse Solutions from Tanzania claimed first place, while AgriCool Solar Chamber, a Ugandan startup offering solar-powered cold storage for agricultural produce, secured second position. CaliFem from Ivory Coast and Ecobrick from Togo tied for third place—CaliFem transforms marine waste into sustainable calcium powder, while Ecobrick converts plastic waste into eco-friendly construction materials.

Special recognition awards were also presented:

    • SolAir from Burkina Faso received the Innovation Award for its smart, solar-powered irrigation system.
    • Ecobricks Liberia earned the Impact Award for its initiative that empowers rehabilitated youth through green employment opportunities.

Simi Nwogugu, President and CEO of JA Africa, stated:

The AfrInnovate Youth Challenge is a powerful reminder that when marginalized young Africans are given access to knowledge, mentorship, and opportunity, they reinvent Africa’s economy. These young innovators are designing scalable solutions that address real-world challenges while proving that inclusion is the foundation of sustainable growth.

The challenge continues to demonstrate how Africa’s youth are leveraging innovation to tackle pressing issues in agriculture, sustainability, and social impact—paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient future.
