Takealot Group, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is entering a new phase of growth, launching a series of new business ventures and forming strategic partnerships with government to support national development goals in education, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion.
This marks a significant shift for the group, which has traditionally focused on e-commerce and digital marketplaces. The expansion reflects Takealot’s ambition to play a broader role in South Africa’s economic transformation.
Partnering with Government for Skills and Economic Development
Takealot Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to deliver specialized training aimed at bridging the gap between education and employment. The initiative will equip young people with industry-relevant skills in areas such as e-commerce, logistics, and digital business operations.
The MoU builds on the Takealot Township Economy Initiative, which is now expanding from Mpumalanga and Gauteng into a nationwide programme. Through this initiative, Takealot is leveraging its platform, logistics infrastructure, and expertise to promote inclusive economic growth, job creation, and digital empowerment.
Frederik Zietsman, CEO of Takealot Group. stated:
We are committed to working with government and other partners to accelerate digital inclusion and leverage the power of e-commerce to change lives for the better.
As part of the partnership, Takealot will:
- Collaborate with TVET and community colleges to help develop curricula focused on e-commerce and logistics.
- Expand its Bursary Programme, with matched funding from DHET, to support students in high-demand fields like ICT and retail logistics.
- Use its logistics network to deliver textbooks to colleges.
- Support SMMEs and township entrepreneurs by helping them access e-commerce platforms.
- Work with Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) to further integrate youth into the digital economy.
New Commercial Ventures: Logistics, Finance, and B2B Services
In addition to its public sector collaborations, Takealot is also launching new commercial ventures aimed at diversifying its business model:
- Takealot Fulfilment Solutions (TFS)
Launched in July 2025, TFS consolidates Takealot’s logistics, courier, on-demand delivery, supply chain, and international freight services under one brand. It offers full-service global freight capabilities, simplifying import and export processes for businesses. - Takealot Home Loan Hub
Introduced in August 2025 in partnership with MortgageMarket, this platform allows users to apply for home loans from multiple South African banks through a single Takealot-branded web app. While Takealot does not manage the financing directly, it facilitates soft credit checks via Experian, helping users compare offers without affecting their credit scores. - Takealot for Business
Relaunched in September 2025, this B2B procurement platform is designed to streamline purchasing for businesses of all sizes—from startups and SMMEs to large corporations. It offers single-supplier access across categories such as IT equipment, office supplies, and catering. - TakealotMORE Subscription Service
The group also introduced TakealotMORE, a monthly subscription offering that provides members with unlimited free TakealotNOW deliveries and exclusive discount coupons, enhancing customer loyalty and convenience.
Takealot’s latest moves signal a bold transformation from a pure-play e-commerce platform to a multi-sector digital services provider, with a growing footprint in education, logistics, finance, and enterprise solutions. The group’s evolving strategy reflects its commitment to inclusive growth, innovation, and nation-building in South Africa.
