WordPress has released a new version of its blogging platform that allows Swahili speaking bloggers in Africa set up flawlessly blog in Swahili.

For some time until now, the WordPress version for Swahili translation that was available was 3.x which does not allow a WordPress site setup in Swahili. However, that has now changed with the new version.

It is worth noting that Swahili is the most widely spoken non-tribal language in Africa. The language is spoken by more than 150 million people in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Somalia, Zambia, Malawi, and the Comoros Islands. It is the official language of the African Union (AU) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).

WordPress was launched in 2007 by American developer Matt Mullenweg and English developer Mike Little, the blogging platform is a popular free and open-source content management system. It is used by over 60% of website owners and bloggers.

In a bid to promote African languages and content online, FiFi Finance, a global, multilingual finance portal startup registered in Estonia, paid a Kenyan WordPress expert, Jacksiro, to translate the platform.
