By Paul Adepoju on February 5, 2015 Business, People, Press Release

With immediate effect, Suren Sooklal has become the Group Chief Business Risk Officer for MTN.

He is joining MTN from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he held various roles during his 12-year tenure, including most recently, Group Audit Engagement Partner and Group Relationship Partner on the MTN account and other listed companies.

Sooklal will be responsible for establishing and implementing a risk management framework for the MTN Group, to effectively manage all risk exposures. He will also be required to work with the business leadership team and MTN operations to ensure that risks are identified and proactively managed.

“Sooklal has an extensive 34-year track record, working with clients in the public and private sector, locally and internationally. We are confident that the wealth of experience he brings to MTN will enable him to add immense value to his new role,” says MTN Group President and CEO, Sifiso Dabengwa.

Sooklal holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, postgraduate Diploma in Public Accounting & Auditing and a postgraduate Diploma in Taxation. He is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He replaces Shauket Fakie, who has been MTN Group Chief Business Risk Officer for the past eight years and will be going on retirement this month.

“On behalf of MTN Group, I wish Fakie the best for the future, as he goes on well-deserved retirement. He has formed an integral part of MTN’s Executive team and leaves a legacy of invaluable leadership and tireless service,” says Dabengwa.
