Nigeria’s premier gift card company SureGifts has unveiled its redesigned platform that allows users to add more personalised features to their gift cards.
Speaking to Innovation Village on the new platform, Adeoye Ojo, Co-Founder of the startup said customers can now add video messages to gift cards purchased on the platform.
“We introduced the option to add video messages to gift card purchase, this is perfect when the sender wants to communicate deeper emotions with the gift card,” he said. “Another user case is for Nigerians in the diaspora who wants to send a gift to family or friends in Nigeria. So for periods where typing a long special message is daunting, a video message is perfect, videos can be recorded from webcam or uploaded directly from device.”
In addition to having the option to add a video message, Ojo said gift senders can now pick different card designs based on the occasion they are sending the gift for.

They have also additional mediums for the delivery of gift cards, one of such is SMS. Prior to this upgrade, gift cards could only be delivered via email.
“We have introduced SMS deliveries, now gift cards can be delivered instantly to the recipient’s phone via SMS. This is perfect for situations where the recipients needs the voucher instantly, the special message or video message can be viewed online later when the recipient pleases,” he said.
“We also listened to customers demand where they want to deliver the gift card in person to the recipient and introduced the Print at Home option,” said Ojo.
With the print at home option, SureGifts’ customers can place order on the site, choose print at home and have the gift card delivered to their mailbox almost immediately in a PDF format. The customer can then print the gift card, fold and deliver personally.
Another new feature is the gift registry.
“We [actually] launched a gift registry last year on the old site and saw demand for the service. So on the new site, we tried to make the process easier. Now couples can set up a wedding gift registry on Suregifts themselves and generate a unique URL they can share with friends and family who wants to give them a gift for their wedding. On the registry page, couples can upload their picture, decide on the what the minimum gift contribution is, add some message for their registry visitors,” he said.
An interesting twist to the registry is that at the end of the contribution, couples have the choice to decide on what to do, which is either to use the contributions to buy different gift cards they want or request a cash out.
