A higher education edtech platform, StuDocu launched a university ranking service for South African students, which has allowed the students to rank local universities. The overall result of the rankings placed the University of Pretoria in first place in ranking compared to other local universities.
The CEO and co-founder of StuDocu, Marnix Broer stated that the recent inclusion of South Africa in their annual ranking report.
“We are excited to include South Africa in our StuDocu World University Ranking this year. South African students ranked their universities highly allotting the highest marks to categories of safety, location, and sports. Unfortunately, dating did not rank well as it got the lowest rankings overall.”
The ranking
Reports show that current students and graduates ranked 254 local universities. The rankings were done based on 16 categories ranking from safety on campus to others. The results of the rankings aim to provide a valuable resource for students on what to expect from a university.
Not all the rankings emphasize academic quality but also on the general campus life from housing quality to food and general campus culture.
Students were required to rank the possibility that they would recommend their current institution to friends and family. The result depicts that the University of Pretoria, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Johannesburg are among the highly recommended categories.

The edtech’s survey results placed the following local universities in ranking order of 1 to 10.
