Recently, on Monday 26th of May, 2014 to be precise, different educators and content developers from wide range of sectors converged at the Enterprise Creative Hub to learn about creating compelling learning contents with Elearning platforms and mobile devices.
A senior trainer of Intel Education and Assistant Director of Education, FED. Min of Education, Mrs. Elizabeth Oyelola began the day with a presentation on using Intel Teach suite to develop and deliver educational contents. In her session, she advised that Elearning is the 21st century solution to dwindling state of education in Nigeria and Africa as continent. The second session on ‘Using video to deliver quality contents’ was led by Head of Product and Co- Founder of Tutor.NG, Fehintolu Olaogun, who explained the importance and techniques of adding videos to learning contents. He advised educators to always endeavor to create captivating and quality videos as part of their tools to deliver compelling contents.
The final session at the workshop was led by Chris Pruijsen, CEO Sterio.me and Co-Founder, FoundersBus on ‘Delivering learning content through mobile phones’. He further explained how this can help education delivery where there is very low access or no internet connection especially the rural areas.
After the workshop, Tutor.NG and Sterio.me announced a strategic partnership in launching a full-stack Mobile Learning experience across Nigeria, including SMS and Voice based VAS mobile education services using the Sterio.me platform and eLearning via the mobile web and Tutor.ng app.
The partnership offering will include specifically crafted SMS and Voice content for mobile language learning, health, spiritual and agricultural content, as well as translation and dictionary services. The SMS and Voice content can be accessed from any type of phone (does not require internet access) and the Tutor.ng eLearning applications can be accessed from any smart phone device. Payment with airtime will be enabled via a shortcode.
In a country with lack of access to internet and power, soaring education problems and high levels of illiteracy, educational solutions that can function seamlessly without reliance on data, smart phones and adequate literacy levels have high potential. With the joint Sterio.me / Tutor.ng offering, more people irrespective of their class or location are able to have access to education as long as there is a GSM signal in their community.
“We are excited about this partnership and believe it will enable us to deliver learning content to everyone with mobile access,” said Fehintolu Olaogun Head of Product, Tutor.NG.
“Today, we are able to engage people through feature phones, giving everyone the opportunity to get a quality education and access to new opportunities” said Christopher Pruijsen, CEO of Sterio.me. “The best way to solve some of the biggest societal problems of our age is to form strategic partnerships. As the African proverb goes: if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” (Christopher Pruijsen, CEO, Sterio.me)
