Farming is no longer a matter of hoe and cutlass anymore. It has been digitised with the aid of technology. The consequences of these are that farmers can now easily track their crops and animals, sell their farm produce as well as monitor the yield of their crops. It is worth adding that Nigeria is not lagging behind as agro-startups are springing up to provide solutions to some of the farming challenges these farmers are encountering. As such, we showcase startups disrupting agriculture in Nigeria.
Farmcrowdy
Farmcrowdy.com is Nigeria’s first digital agriculture platform that allows Nigerians to participate in Agriculture using their online technology. Through Farmcrowdy, Nigerians across the world can commit an agreed sum to own a minimum farm space, start and complete a farming cycle. Farms Partners on the platform can sponsor any farm of their choice including Maize Farms, Poultry (Broiler) Farms, Cassava Farms and Tomato Farms. The Farm Partners then get bi-weekly updates about their farm progress including pictures and videos from the farmers. It was launched in 2016 by Onyeka Akumah.
Releaf
Releaf is an agro startup that connects buyers and sellers of agricultural products to trustworthy customers. Releaf-which recently raised $120,000 investment from YCombinator to scale its solution in Nigeria- was founded by Isaiah Udotong, Ikenna Nzewi and Uzoma Ayogu. The startup presently has about 300 active users, 100 connections and 600 companies on the platform. It was launched in August 2017.
Probity Farms
Probityfarms is a software that allows farmers to manage all their farm activities including crop and livestock; schedule tasks, track fertilizer usage and get SMS/email reminders of farm task. Farmers can also capture sales, track expenses, calculate loans repayment and generate accounting reports with the software.
Farmnga
Farmnga is a classified ad online platform that allows buyers to easily locate farmers and their food products, compare prices before buying from nearby sellers. In other words, it enables farmers and agribusiness owners to connect and sell faster for a better Return On Investment (ROI). It was founded by Arthur Johnson Nwokolo, Akogun Oluwatimilehin, Stanley Aniobi.
Growsel
Just like Farmcrowdy, Growsel wants to encourage Nigerians to venture into farming without necessarily owning a farm. So, if you are interested in farming, you can visit the website, pick a farm you are interested, make the necessary negotiations and watch as your money works for you. The startup also provides practical advice through SMS to local farmers without Internet across rural areas in Nigeria.
Farm Deals
Farm Deals is a Business to Business and Business to Customer agro-startup dedicated to connecting African farmers to both local and international buyers of farm produce. It was founded by Oshiobugie Kenneth.

Agribusiness needs tech as its partner. While Fintech is currently enjoying the spotlight, I am a big believer that agric holds a big potential (at least in Nigeria) with a potential market size of $1 trillion by year 2030.
Nice to see ProbityFarms.com included in this list 🙂
