The much awaited movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now out in cinemas all over the world, including Nigeria and it has already started breaking records globally.

The Force Awakens posted $14.1m from its opening day in a number of European nations on Wednesday, along with an estimated record $50m from Thursday previews in the US.

In South Africa, the movie broke the record for the biggest opening Wednesday in South African Box Office history by grossing R4 726 865. The previous record holder was Iron Man 3 back in 2013.

We still await the figures for Nigeria.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a 2015 American space film directed, co-produced, and co-written by J. J. Abrams. It is the seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher,Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Max von Sydow and two Africans – John Boyega from Nigeria and Lupita Nyong’o from Kenya.

Experts at Box Office Mojo believe The Force Awakens could be on course to post a world record $575m-650m total globally over its opening weekend, with the film also likely to break Jurassic World’s $204.6m record for the biggest opening weekend in the US.

    We wait and see.
