Spotify has announced the expansion of its DJ feature, previously in Beta since February for users in the U.S. and Canada. The company said it is now rolling out this feature to 50 “markets” worldwide.
In a recent press statement, the music-streaming giant confirmed that the DJ feature will be accessible to Spotify Premium users across various regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and notably, Nigeria. These “Premium users in select markets” are those situated in specific regions or countries chosen by Spotify, and it can be accessed through the English version of the app.
DJ is like a personal AI guide that knows your music taste inside out, helping it choose the perfect tracks for you. Think of it as a virtual DJ that picks songs based on your preferences. While Spotify hasn’t detailed the exact song selection process, it’s likely similar to how songs are shuffled on the platform based on genres, artists, and moods you enjoy.
With the DJ crafting a lineup of music tailored just for you, the question arises: is this approach suitable for users who prefer making their own playlists? One advantage is that the music selection aims to keep you engaged for longer listening sessions.
If you prefer curating playlists manually, you’re time-constrained by the number of songs you can add. The DJ feature, on the other hand, saves you the stress of having to look for suitable tracks. But does it deliver the best music experience you desire? I’d be eager to test The DJ feature myself, but I’m not currently a Spotify Premium subscriber. If you get a chance to try it, please share your experience in the comments below.
I appreciate the benefits of AI, and I’m glad that Spotify anticipates non-interactive playlists becoming outdated. However, it remains uncertain whether these playlists will be uniquely created by DJ to enhance the user experience. AI, although, promising, has its limitations. Spotify acknowledges that the DJ feature is in beta and they’re committed to refining and enhancing the experience through ongoing iteration and innovation.
