Spotify is testing Its Stories Feature

Streaming service, Spotify is testing the Snapchat-style Stories feature with some of its playlists. For its Christmas playlist, Spotify has a series of artists including Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Lopez use a series of short video clips to share personal stories about the Christmas season and their songwriting drills and processes.

Users can access the videos from an icon on the top left of each supported playlist. Tapping it reveals an interface that’ll be familiar to anyone who’s ever watched an Instagram or Snapchat story, allowing you to tap on the left or right of the screen to skip through a collection of short video clips.

Spotify while confirming the new feature in a statement said it was a test and stopped short of confirming a wider release.

A spokesperson for the company said, “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience.”

“Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

Since its debut on Snapchat, Stories have become an increasingly common feature on many social networks and services like Instagram, YouTube, and most recently LinkedIn and Twitter.

Spotify has also experimented with Stories in 2019 when it called its version of the feature Storylines.
