    SpeedUPAfrica: 8 startups get investments from DraperDarkFlow, Toro Orero and Tim Draper

    DraperDarkFlow, Toro Orero, and Tim Draper have made investments in 8 SpeedUPAfrica startups. The eight Startups that have received  investments are as follows:

    1. VugaPay: A faster and safer way to send and receive mobile money payments online without sharing your financial information.
    2. Tress: A passionate global community of black women sharing and discovering new hairstyles.
    3. Swiftly: Swiftly matches people to share space when shipping by sea, air or land and share cost
    4. Planete Sports: Planete Sports is a startup that wants to create the first African chain of sports websites with a focus on data.
    5. VeriCampus: VeriCampus helps schools deliver timely and innovative services to all stakeholders via their mobile phones.
    6. DropBuddies: DropBuddies is a crowdsourced errand running and on-demand deliver service
    7. Nurlux: Nurlux is a Wi-Fi company that runs internet sponsored advertising campaigns and solutions over free Wi-Fi in high traffic locations.
    8. TrendingshoW (TW): TW is a web and mobile app that provides on-demand TV content to on-the-go viewers.

    Tim Draper made 2 direct investments, only his 2nd & 3rd ever investments in Africa.

    SpeedUpAfrica, a founder bootcamp, had 100 founders from 18 African Countries, complete with hands-on workshops & mentors sessions from 500 Startups, Google,Facebook, Singularity University, Tim Draper, Gina Kloes, Felix Lin, plus in-house DJs, pool parties, dance battles, lots of food, investor deal day. The event took place in Ramada Resort Accra Coco Beach, Ghana, from July 6 to July 10, 2016.

    7 of these founders from SpeedUPAfrica will be off to Draper University; one of Silicon Valley’s elite entrepreneurial and life changing programs. Also Singularity University is nominating 6 outstanding startups from SpeedUPAfrica to participate in its newly launched Impact Fellows Program.

    Some of the startups won cool and quirky awards like Most Turn Ups (won by Cecil Nutakor of eCampus), Investor Sweetheart (won by Mark Essien of Hotels.ng), and Team Spirit (won by Ifeoma of VirtualHelp) – winning Google Virtual Reality Cardboards.
