Alepo Technologies, Inc, has announced a partnership deal with Spectranet, to provide an evolved packet core LTE solution via integration with a Huawei radio network, ensuring a future-proof and endless scalable solution.
Apple, Samsung and a host of other device manufacturers have churned out 4G/LTE capable devices that have found their way into the hands of many Nigerians. Devices like the BlackBerry Z10, Nokia Lumia 820 and 920, iPhone 5 amongst others. The missing link is that we don’t have any providing offering true 4G or LTE signal.
Like Smile telecoms that offer SIM card options as part of their broadband services, I am thinking Spectranet is going to include that option too, so that some of these LTE capable devices can make use of them.
It has been in the news in the past that Airtel, MTN, Etisalat and Glo have been testing their LTE, but none of them have launched yet. With this announcement, will Spectranet be the first to offer us LTE network in Nigeria?
When this service is rolled out, it will become possible for content providers who provide services that require speedy internet to start acquiring more customers. I wrote about the challenges facing VoD services in Africa some time ago–lack of broadband.
Spectranet is banking on Alepo’s offering to provide a solution that is future -proof, flexible enough solution that won’t sacrifice its robustness. Mahesh Bhanarkar of Spectranet believes that Alepo is a partner with experience and innovation necessary to support their business as they enter new markets.
I am on one of the Nigerian networks that has 4G attached to its name buy can’t stream YouTube without buffering. If Spectranet delivers on its promise and does so on time, they can shut up and take my money.
