South Africa’s Business Partners has introduced the Basadi-Women Growth Fund, a ZAR90 million (approximately US$4 million) initiative aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs. This fund is specifically designed to provide tailored business financing solutions to women who own viable formal small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) but often struggle to access funding through traditional financial channels.
The Basadi-Women Growth Fund offers financing packages ranging from ZAR250,000 (US$11,000) to ZAR5 million (US$221,000). These funds can be utilized for a wide range of business needs, including:
- Property acquisition for business premises
- Working capital to support day-to-day operations
- Equipment or asset financing to enhance productivity
- Business acquisitions or takeovers
- Replacement finance for existing obligations
- Purchasing a viable start-up franchise
What sets this fund apart is its competitive pricing and flexible terms, structured to promote sustainability and long-term growth. A key differentiator is the option for interest capitalisation or a repayment moratorium of up to six months, giving women-owned businesses breathing room during critical growth phases.
René Botha, Regional Investment Manager at Business Partners, commented:
We need to cultivate an inclusive entrepreneurial environment where women have equal opportunities to grow and succeed. Our approach goes beyond funding—we aim to provide access to networks and mentorship opportunities.
The initiative recognizes that increasing women’s participation in entrepreneurship is vital for sustainable economic growth. Women entrepreneurs not only create jobs and wealth but often enter business with a strong desire to make a positive societal impact.
Botha added:
This social benefit should outweigh any barriers to entry if we are serious about driving economic growth and societal progress in South Africa.
Through the Basadi-Women Growth Fund, Business Partners seeks to do more than provide capital. By offering technical support, networking opportunities, and mentorship, the program addresses deeper structural challenges that hinder women’s entrepreneurial success. The ultimate goal is clear: when women succeed, communities thrive.
