South African startup Revio rebrands to Precium amid surpassing global expansion goals

Revio, South Africa’s innovative payment orchestration platform known for streamlining the order-to-cash lifecycle for merchants, has undergone a significant transformation, rebranding itself as “Precium.” This change marks the company’s progression from a regional processing service to a comprehensive global payments platform.

Established in 2020 and officially launched in 2021, Revio set out to address the challenges faced by merchants in Africa by simplifying the complexities and reducing the costs and risks associated with payment operations. The platform’s goal is to enhance merchants’ ability to attract and maintain a larger customer base.

Offering a single PCI-compliant platform and API, Revio (now Precium) provides merchants, both local and international, with access to over 70 payment methods. Merchants can also benefit from customizable routing and retry rules, as well as dynamic customer engagement throughout the payment process.

In October of the previous year, the startup announced a seed funding round that raised $5.2 million, aimed at facilitating its expansion across Africa and the enhancement of its platform’s capabilities. Since then, the company has seen substantial growth in its team, product features, and merchant network.

The rebranding to “Precium” reflects the company’s success in attracting global merchants eager to tap into the African consumer market’s potential. These international clients require top-tier security, consistent processing reliability, and in-depth local knowledge to support their growth strategies—standards that Precium is ready to meet.

Nicole Dunn, co-founder and COO of Precium, highlighted the company’s journey from a startup focused on delivering premier payment technologies to South African merchants to becoming a gateway for global merchants to enter emerging African markets.

Despite the company’s international expansion, its operations continue to be deeply anchored in South Africa, with an increasing number of its clientele based overseas. The rebranding initiative encapsulates Precium’s evolution into a globally competitive payment infrastructure platform, designed to cater to the needs of large-scale enterprises.

The decision to rebrand was also influenced by the attention Precium received from global entities sharing similar names, prompting a strategic move to safeguard the company’s growth and international presence. This rebranding process provided an opportunity for introspection and realignment with the company’s mission and vision. Dunn expressed excitement about reintroducing the company as a home-grown entity with aspirations to make a significant global impact.
