South African startup Andi On Demand has officially launched its on‑demand services platform, aiming to digitize and modernize one of Africa’s most fragmented economic sectors: home and business services. The platform enables customers to seamlessly connect with vetted service professionals, including electricians, plumbers, cleaners, handymen, and various technicians, through a mobile‑first marketplace built to enhance accessibility, trust, and consistency.
By introducing digital processes into a traditionally informal sector, Andi On Demand hopes to streamline service delivery for both consumers and providers.
Across many African cities, services work remains highly informal, often driven by word‑of‑mouth referrals and small offline networks. This setup creates gaps in reliability, quality assurance, and steady income, despite growing smartphone penetration and the rise of digital commerce. Andi On Demand aims to close these gaps by providing a structured, transparent system that benefits all sides.
Kapenda Chapeshamano, Andi On Demand’s associate for operations and partner onboarding, explained:
Across African cities, skilled service providers exist, but access to work is still largely informal. We’re focused on building simple, practical infrastructure that helps service providers access work more consistently, while giving customers a more reliable way to find help.
Unlike traditional directory-style platforms that merely list providers, Andi On Demand incorporates rigorous onboarding, skill‑based matching, and accountability mechanisms such as ratings and reviews. The objective is to elevate professionalism in the services sector without taking away the flexibility that many informal operators depend on for their livelihoods.
The startup is launching its operations in Gauteng, with a roadmap to expand into additional African cities where similar challenges in the services industry, fragmentation, informality, and inconsistent quality, continue to persist.
