Sony has finally released the official images of the PlayStation VR2 headgear after it’s announcement last month . The new device boasts a more rounded design, as well as a number of unique features that make it more comfortable to wear.
Unlike the original PS VR (which was released in 2016), the new model has a lens adjustment dial, a new vent design, and a tad less weight. It has the same broad shape as the original, but a few new features. In the same way, the PS VR2 has small textured PlayStation icons on the front and back bands of the headset.
More than five years have passed since the original PSVR was released. It’s definitely time for a new look. You can use the VR2 headgear on the PS5 with a special adapter, but the experience is clearly previous generation. Sony has also made other VR moves that were problematic in the absence of an upgraded headset to go along with the PS5, such as handing away free VR titles to subscribers of PlayStation Plus.
Using the headset, you can get tactile feedback, track your eye movements, play games in 4K HDR, 90/120Hz frame rates, and have a field of view of 110 degrees. It connects to the PS5 with a single USB-C cable.
The PlayStation VR was the first cheap VR headset that didn’t need a big gaming PC or $800 worth of extra equipment to use. Back in 2016, it cost between $400 and $500, but it has only become more affordable since then. It turned buyer’s PS4 game consoles into a “modestly powerful” PC.
Although the PSVR was released in 2014, it was among the first wave of consumer VR headsets, alongside the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. To interact with virtual worlds with the original PSVR, you had to walk around a very small area directly in front of your PS4 and use a pair of wands that could only simulate grasping and ungrasping at best, unlike the juggling you can do with modern controllers or the virtual hands with individual fingers you can get with a Valve Index controller.
