At the last CES event held in Las Vegas, Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia Z smartphone. Now it has landed in Nigeria.
As reported in an earlier blog post, the 5in screen-smartphone is water-resistant and is capable of being submerged in water of up to one metre (3.3 ft) in depth for 30 minutes.
Announcing the smartphone launch in Lagos, Marketing Manager Africa, Mr. Younes Cherkaoui, said the Nigerian market remained huge in the African continent with a lot of growth potential for mobile phones, hence Nigeria became the second destination for its launch in the Middle East and Africa region. It was launched in Dubai in February 2013.
According to him, four features distinguished Xperia Z from other smartphones and listed them to include design, camera, social sharing and easy connectivity.
Speaking on its design, Cherkaoui said “the phone comes with multi-faceted feature, where every face of the phone looks similar.” One unique feature of the smartphone is that it has water resistance and photographs and videos could be taken in water at a distance of one metre below water level. The phone could be in water and still respond to incoming calls. While in one metre deep water, the phone could still ring out and its user could still receive calls with Bluetooth device while the phone is still in water. It has powerful camera that could take bright pictures in the dark, without applying the flash mechanism.”
Cherkaoui explained that the smartphone would be targeting tech matured people who have taste for new mobile phone technology.
Xperia Z is available in black, purple and white colours and distributed by Sony partners in Nigeria. The retail price is N110,000 naira ($694).
