Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5’s logo. This was done yesterday during the company’s CES 2020 press conference.
The company also announced that it has sold over 5 million PlayStation VR headset since the device launched in October 2016.
Sony during the press conference also said it has sold an impressive 104 million PS4 units which ranks it second behind PS 2 in the list of the best selling game console in history. Interestingly, PS 2 sold 158 million units.
The PS 5 logo bears semblance to those of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. According to reports, the only difference is the number. The font remains the same too.
News on the features of the PlayStation 5 has been slowly making rounds in the past few months as the company prepares to launch its next-generation console next year. Little is known about the design of the console, however, Sony has said that the PS5 will support 8K graphics, ray tracing, super-fast SSDs to cut down on load times, and PS4 backwards compatibility.
Touching on the hardware front, expect an eight-core CPU (based on AMD’s new Zen 2 architecture) and a custom GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi hardware.
Also for the controllers, reports have it that Sony will swap the current rumble technology for haptic feedback tech and feature “adaptive triggers” that can adjust how much resistance there is when you press them.
The Company is expected to give more details about the PlayStation in the course of the year.
