April 14th is Sony’s next Xperia event. A look at the company’s YouTube banner, show that it is set to launch a new phone at 4:30 PM Japan Standard Time — that’s 3:30 AM EST or 12:30 AM PT — on the set date.
Though the banner only creates anticipation, there is a buzz that Sony will re-launch its Xperia Compact to look like the iPhone Mini.
Another rumour floating around is that Sony is set to release its flagship phone called Xperia 1 III. Yet some mentioned it will be the new versions of the Xperia 5 and 10.
All these reports show that the mobile market is likely going to see a new entry into the flagship Xperia 1 line.
It’s probably a safe bet that if there’s only one phone waiting to be released (as implied by the singular “product” in Sony’s image), it would be the ‘Xperia 1 III’. 2018 was the last time Sony released a “Compact” branded phone. Though it does use the word to market the Xperia 5 II, with its 6.1-inch screen, which is around the same size as an iPhone 12 Pro or Galaxy S21.
A lot of people have said that the 2021 version of the Compact will have a 5.5-inch display. According to this rumour, this will only a tiny bit bigger than the screen on an iPhone Mini.
It is expected that the Xperia ‘1 III’ and ‘Compact’ will come with headphone jacks. For now, only time will tell what April 14th will look like.
