Sony has announced that it is working with Netflix and Amazon Prime on TV shows based on God of War and Horizon. The announcement was made on the same day that the company briefed investors on its 2022 business segment, though, the Horizon series was not included in the documents used during the presentation.
Part of the discussion was the Gran Turismo show which had been in development as well as plans to make more PlayStation 5 consoles and get them into the hands of more people who want them..
This makes it three major PlayStation franchises getting TV adaptations “with Horizon going to Netflix, God of War to Amazon, and Gran Turismo to a currently unannounced platform or network,” as reported by IGNAfrica.
There is not a lot of information available at this time regarding the three projects. It is not yet known who will be cast in the roles of Aloy, Kratos, Atreus, and other characters, nor is it clear how Sony intends to make a television show out of Gran Turismo.
In recent years, Sony has prioritised adapting some of its most popular games into television shows and films. Sony Pictures has been trying to make an Uncharted movie for more than ten years. This year, the company finally did it. In addition, a film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima is currently in the works. Twisted Metal is coming to Peacock, and filming on HBO’s highly anticipated The Last of Us is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks.

Netflix and Amazon have also been using video game intellectual property more and more recently. League of Legends, Castlevania, and Cuphead have animated series on Netflix, while a live-action Resident Evil series will premiere in July this year. Amazon, on the other hand, is developing a Fallout show and, if reports are to be believed, a Mass Effect show.
Sony hasn’t favoured any particular streaming provider, and so the diversity shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
