Sony is ramping up its capacity to produce PlayStation games inhouse as it has acquired yet another game development studio, Bluepoint Games.
Bluepoint recently developed a Demon’s Souls remake for the PlayStation 5. The studio has also developed a PS4 remake of the Shadow of the Colossus and has a history of Uncharted with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
“Bluepoint has made its name by creating some of the highest quality remasters and remakes in the industry,” said Head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst.
“In each project, Bluepoint raised the bar for visual and gameplay that defines the console. The studio’s extensive expertise in building the world and creating characters will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studio properties.”
Bluepoint is known for remastering and remaking, but the studio will create the original PlayStation title as the next game.
Marco Slash, President of Bluepoint, said in a statement: “By being part of PlayStation Studios, our team can raise quality standards and create even more impactful experiences for the PlayStation community. In the next chapter of Bluepoint Games, we’ll bring you even better games. I can’t wait! “
Back in June, Sony acquired Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind recent PS5 exclusive Returnal. It was announced with a tweet which suggests Sony might also be about to acquire Bluepoint. Hence, the acquisition of Bluepoint might not come entirely as a surprise.
