To be launched in Yaba, Lagos and Tinapa, Calabar are incubation centres that will raise a new breed of indigenous Information Technology (IT) businesses and software developers. The incubation centers will take off on April 18.
Nigeria’s N960 billion software industry is expected to grow with this new development in the next two years, and with the $1billion boost by the Nigerian government to spur development of local content, the horizon looks bright. The main objective of the government, according to the Minister of Communications Technology is to create 25 successful ICT firms by 2015.
“The focus of the ministry between now and 2015 is to drive local content and skills development to create employment and sustain the industry, We also want to increase the contributions of the ICT industry to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). To achieve this objective, we would focus on software, mobile apps development, ICT entrepreneurship and innovation”. Omobola Johnson, minister of Communications Technology said.
