Twitter temporarily suspended the Twitter handle of Dr Stella Immanuel @stella_immanuel, for violating the company’s coronavirus misinformation policy. Apparently Dr Stella Immanuel posted a video online touting Hydroxychloroquine as a cure for the coronavirus.
Dr Stella Immanuel and a group of doctors calling themselves America’s Frontline Doctors, also dismissed the wearing of face masks to curtail the spread of the virus in the video. In the video, In her speech, the doctor alleged that she has successfully treated hundreds of patients with hydroxychloroquine. “Nobody needs to get sick. This virus has a cure.” added Immanuel.
Facebook, YouTube and Twitter took down the video, well not before it had racked up millions of views within a few hours. Twitter temporarily limited Donald Trump Jr’s account because he shared a version of the video and Instagram labelled a video of Dr. Immanuel posted by singer Madonna as “false information”.
President Donald Trump also supported her claim saying “She said that she had tremendous success with hundreds of different patients, I thought her voice was an important voice but I know nothing about her.” Even before this claim, earlier on in the middle of the pandemic, the President had stated that he supported the use of Hydroxychloroquine as a cure for the coronavirus but other doctors had declared that it was not proven. The FDA has warned against using it for coronavirus patients.
