Snapchat has begun rolling out its end-of-year Recaps to users, offering a personalized look back at how they used the platform throughout 2025. The feature, which arrives as a short video, highlights moments from Snaps, Stories, and Chats, showcasing how users connected and expressed themselves over the past year.
Users can access their Recap directly within the app by heading to the Memories section, where a card labeled “Your 2025 Snap Recap” appears. From there, Snapchat automatically generates a video summarizing key moments and interactions, continuing the growing trend of annual digital wrap-ups popularized by platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Duolingo.
Alongside the Recaps launch, Snapchat shared usage statistics that underline how communication on the platform continues to evolve. The company noted that voice communication remains strong, with users spending nearly 1.7 billion minutes per day on phone calls on average — an increase of almost 30 percent compared to last year. In the United States alone, more than five billion voice notes were sent in 2025, representing nearly a 10 percent year-on-year increase.
Group chats also remain a central part of the Snapchat experience. According to the company, the number of people sending messages in group chats grew by more than 5 percent this year. Some users were particularly active, sending over 8,880 messages to their most used group chat over the course of 2025.
Snapchat also highlighted growing engagement with expressive features. Chat Reactions increased by 44 percent this year, with the heart emoji emerging as the most frequently used reaction. Sticker usage also rose, with an additional three million users adopting stickers as part of their everyday communication on the app.
However, the rollout of the 2025 Recap comes at a sensitive time for the company. Snapchat has faced user backlash following its announcement that it will begin charging for additional Memories storage in 2026. The company revealed in September that free Memories storage will be capped at 5GB. Users who exceed this limit will be required to subscribe to a paid storage plan.
Under the new pricing structure, Snapchat will offer a 100GB Memories storage plan for $1.99 per month. Snapchat+ subscribers will receive up to 250GB of storage as part of their $3.99 monthly subscription, while Snapchat Platinum users will get up to 5TB of storage included in the $15.99 monthly plan.
As Snapchat continues to balance monetization with user engagement, the 2025 Recap serves as both a celebration of how people use the platform and a reminder of the increasing value the company places on its Memories feature.
