Snapchat, on Monday, launched My AI, a chatbot customised for the social media app that runs on OpenAI’s GPT technology. In a blog post, the company stated that the feature would be available this week on an “experimental” basis only to $3.99 per month Snapchat Plus subscribers.
The newly added chatbot will always be displayed at the very top of the Chat tab. My AI can do things as different as answer trivia questions and write haikus. It has been programmed to have a distinct tone of voice and personality that reflect its core beliefs in “friendship, learning, and fun.” In addition, it has been instructed to follow the app’s security and privacy protocols.
In the announcement, the company said, “My AI can suggest birthday gift ideas for your best friend, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your friend who is obsessed with cheddar.” “Make My AI your own by giving it a name and customizing the wallpaper for your chat.”
According to Snapchat, My AI can be made to say just about anything, “as with all AI-powered chatbots.” They seem to be talking about how the recent update to Microsoft Bing using OpenAI’s GPT-4 model has caused chaos.
A week after Bing’s release, users began sharing the strange and unsettling responses they were getting from the search engine. Microsoft had to admit that Bing can be made to say things that aren’t in its “designed tone” because of this. By pointing out that My AI has “many deficiencies,” Snapchat appears to be prepared to deal with a similar situation with its own chatbot. “Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance!” the company apologised in advance. Lol!
Note that Snapchat’s My AI isn’t designed to perform the same function as Microsoft’s Bing. It’s more like a Snapchat persona with whom you can converse as you would with a friend. My AI will record all interactions and may use that data to fine-tune the service in the future.
Snapchat tells its users not to trust My AI or give the chatbot sensitive information. The company says My AI is designed to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading information, but mistakes may happen. It tells users that they can give feedback by pressing and holding any My AI message.
The launch of My AI by Snapchat is important because it shows how AI chatbots are becoming more popular in many fields, including social media. The use of chatbots can improve the user experience and streamline processes for businesses, making it easier for users to interact with services and products.
However, it’s important to note that while AI chatbots like My AI can be helpful, they are not perfect and may have limitations. They may not be able to understand complex requests or provide accurate information in all cases. It’s also important to consider the potential privacy implications of using AI chatbots, as they may collect and use personal data in ways that users may not be comfortable with.
It will be interesting to see how Snapchat continues to develop and refine My AI to provide even better assistance to its users in the future.
