    Smartphone Review: Infinix Hot

By Staff Writer on January 9, 2015 Gadgets

Simply put, the phone has a confident feel when you hold it, although it’s a simple smartphone that only satisfies your basic needs.

Even though I was asked not to, I couldn’t resist the temptation of comparing the device with my Samsung Galaxy K Zoom that costs about 5 times more than Infinix Hot. To those that cannot afford to buy those high-end Samsung and Apple devices, and are getting bored with Tecno, Infinix Hot is your new option, not the best.

    Screen and other hardware
It has a 5-inch screen which is not too big (it’s not a tablet or phablet), not too small either. The size is good enough for normal phone functions and several multimedia activities. I love its light weight and how easily it slides into my pocket. The device is made of plastic which was why it remained scratch-free after I’d dropped it severally. No single scratch.

The screen resolution is not the highest, there are several better devices with higher resolution in the market but you could still take better pictures when you use it in broad day light. The device also comes with a changeable back cover which you can switch for the unique type that glows at night.

    Dual SIM and Operating System

Infinix is aware of the great love for dual SIM devices in Nigeria which is why the device has 2 SIM card slots  for a micro-SIM card and a mini SIM card. However, only one of the SIMs connect users to 3G and HSPA, the other only offers 2G connectivity.

Infinix Hot runs swiftly on Android Kitkat version.

    Camera

The new device has a 5MP primary camera. The ‘shutter’ is sensitive to hand gestures, the front facing ‘selfie’ camera is pegged at 2MP and it is just good enough when there is adequate lighting in the environment.

    Processor & Memory

Infinix Hot has a 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor, an internal memory of 16GB that could be expanded to 32GB and a 1GB RAM size. It easily supports regular games including apps and regular internet surfing.

    Battery life
This is one of the cool things about the device. It doesn’t come with a power bank for a reason, the battery is largely okay. Even though the 200mAh battery will only last few hours in the hands of compulsive phone users like me, it could last longer if you connect via WiFi, and much longer if you stay offline.

    Shortcomings

There is no Gorilla glass, no LED light, but the casing is available in a variety of colors to describe your mood, taste, state and personality. I see it as another product that vividly depicts the smartphone needs of the average Nigerian on the street. They just want an Android device that supports multimedia services, has torch light, recordable radio and is below NGN15,000. As far as these people are concerned, Infinix Hot is good enough. For the rest of us, we should start saving for iPhone 7…If we can afford it.

The Infinix Hot currently retails for N13,400 on Konga.com.
