Sliide Airtime officially launches in Nigeria, offers users free airtime

A new startup that wants to lower the cost of mobile broadband for Nigerians, Sliide Airtime believes that with services like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Eskimi all growing in popularity in Nigeria, there is an increasing need to find new ways to help Nigerians pay for internet access.

Android users can earn NGN100 free airtime just for downloading the Sliide Airtime app from the Google Play Store, and more airtime every month for keeping Sliide Airtime on the phone.

In addition, users can earn an extra NGN100 for every friend they introduce to Sliide Airtime – and their friends will also earn NGN100 each. The service can be downloaded from www.sliideairtime.ng or visit the Google Play Store and searching for ‘Sliide Airtime’.

Download the app, enter the code AIRTIME during sign up, and you will get 100N free airtime, just for downloading it.

After entering information about age and interests (for example: business, celebrity, football, style, music), users will receive personalised content when unlocking their phone, including news and stories handpicked from media sources both in and beyond Nigeria, and updated 24/7/365.

Sliide Airtime’s CEO and co-founder, Corbyn Munnik was born in South Africa and reached Lagos via a childhood in Botswana.

“For most people living in Nigeria, it’s really expensive to get online using your phone and I found I was spending more and more each month. So I decided to find a way to make it cheaper – both for myself and for my friends and family. Our service is non-intrusive – not only do people get free airtime but they are also sent content which will be interesting and useful,” he said.

Corbyn is able to provide free airtime to Sliide Airtime users by sending occasional non-intrusive adverts and branded content pieces. Sliide Airtime is focused on Nigeria first but expects to expand into South Africa, Ghana and Kenya later in the year.
