Skype has commenced the rollout of free group video calling on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets in Western Europe and North America and is expected to complete the roll-out to other markets globally next week or so.
This new update allows groups of up to 25 people to chat on video calls via the Skype app. The new group video calls does not require a Skype account in order to participate. Skype users can invite participants to join calls by sharing URLs.
With this new feature, Skype has now surpassed rivals like Apple’s FaceTime and Facebook Messenger which only allows one to one voice call, Google Hangouts which is limited to 10 participants.
