Do you have an idea that can positively impact the lives of people in West Africa? Here is a chance to develop and launch a startup around your idea.

Enter for the SingularityU West Africa Global Impact Challenge.

The SingularityU West Africa Global Impact Challenge was set up by Singularity University (SU) in partnership with Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) and Imaginarium Creative . The purpose of the challenge is to foster moonshot innovations and startups that positively impact the lives of people living in the region, with an ability to scale and impact a billion people worldwide in 10 years.

Singularity University (SU) is a global community that uses exponential technologies to tackle the world’s biggest challenges that impacts the lives of billions of people worldwide. They have successfully hosted Global Impact Challenges since 2010 in many countries all over the world. To date, it has hosted 94 Challenges in 38 countries awarding 121 winners.

This is the first Global Impact Challenge in West Africa.

The promoters are looking for applicants who have the skills and passion to develop and launch a startup company around a moonshot idea that addresses a global grand challenge. They are looking for applicants from ANY technology or science discipline because we know global challenges can only be solved within the convergence of multiple disciplines and exponential technologies.

The objective of these challenges is spur moonshot innovations to solve world’s greatest global challenges– energy, environment, food, shelter, space, water, disaster resilience, governance, health, learning, prosperity and security– by using exponential technology.

The challenge is open to all residents and citizens of Nigeria, and all West African neighbours who are passionate entrepreneurs, technologists, scientists, or change agents with expertise in their chosen field(s). The winner of the Challenge will be selected on April 19, 2017 after completing their pitch and will be awarded a prize to participate in the Singularity University Global Solutions Program (GSP) free of charge.

All semi-finalists and finalists of this challenge will be invited to participate in an immersive workshop experience in Lagos, Nigeria on April 18-19. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about exponential technologies and the latest entrepreneurial tools

The jury will consist of representatives from Singularity University, MEST, as well as senior representatives of the entrepreneurship, business or innovation community.

Entry closes on the 7th of April.
