Simon Sinek is a foremost British/American author, motivational speaker and marketing consultant. He is the author of three books including the 2009 best seller Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action (2009).
I feel it is imperative that we hear what he has to say about leadership as this is one of the most important issues that is required in our world today.
This is one of his famous Ted talks and it is about leadership. In fact, with over 30,491,798 views, it is the third most viewed Ted talk of all time. Titled “How great leaders inspire action”, it was filmed in September 2009 and it is still relevant today.
Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership starting with a golden circle and the question “Why?” His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers …
“About three and a half years ago, I made a discovery. And this discovery profoundly changed my view on how I thought the world worked, and it even profoundly changed the way in which I operate in it. As it turns out, there’s a pattern. As it turns out, all the great inspiring leaders and organizations in the world, whether it’s Apple or Martin Luther King or the Wright brothers, they all think, act and communicate the exact same way. And it’s the complete opposite to everyone else. All I did was codify it, and it’s probably the world’s simplest idea. I call it the golden circle.”
