Shazam has launched a Chrome extension that allows users to identify songs playing on the Google-owned browser. However, some users reported that the extension was broken.
The Shazam Chrome extension could help you identify the song on the browser itself, without having to look around with your phone. It can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store and pinned just like your regular browser extensions.
On installing the free extension, you can view it in the Chrome extension’s dropdown menu. Clicking on it opens a pop-up that prompts you to “Click to Shazam”. Shazam will then listen to the song that’s playing in the current tab of Chrome to identify the music.
Users also get the option to play the full song via Apple Music, along with the lyrics. You can also view your Shazam browser song history through the extension.
Apple has not advertised the extension except on the Shazam website, and this is because it might be because there are issues with the extension. For some users, the extension does not appear to be working at all. Multiple reviews suggest that the extension is unable to recognize any songs, though, for others, it works as expected. It is expected that Apple will update the extension to fix the bug.
