Mr Brian Wamatu, Safaricom’s Head of Regional Expansion, alongside Mr Simon Kinuthia, Senior Manager in charge of Network Systems Audit, were arraigned in a Nairobi Court on Monday for attempting to extort the firm of KES 300 million.
The two Safaricom employees allegedly stole private information on a subscriber from the company’s database and shared it with one Mr Charles Njuguna Kimani between May 1 and June 7 of 2019.
The two have also been accused of demanding the Sh300 million from Safaricom with intent to steal.
The two have denied the allegations and have been ordered to provide KE 1 million cash bail each to secure their release. The court has also ordered them to report to the DCI offices’ Serious Crimes Unit twice a week after release until the official hearing of their case on July 16th.
